FISHING BETTER
Science to support innovation in fishing practices and management
Research exploring the idea that the most effective solutions to the sustainability challenges facing global fisheries will stem from the knowledge, expertise, and capabilities of the fishermen themselves. Acknowledging the pivotal role of human behavior and decision-making in shaping fishing practices, our research aims to promote and foster environmentally and economically sustainable fishing methods. By understanding and supporting these practices, we can address the dual challenges of protecting marine ecosystems and meeting food provision demands.
About
Dr Leslie Roberson
I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Queensland in Australia. My research aims to reduce fishing impacts on marine biodiversity and improve the sustainability of blue foods globally. I'm terrible company at a seafood restaurant but an expert at discreetly peeing off the side of small fishing boats. I'm also an avid surfer who loves to enjoy our beautiful ocean, and while I'm at it I do my best to improve scientific literacy and fight disinformation within my surfing and local communities.
